A fun read, I am on to the next in the Series

Loved the book! A little short or maybe I devoured it to fast. A great read if your looking for something easy but very enjoyable. Typical good guys, bad guys. Just bought the second one, so now we will see if this was a one hit wonder. I will let you know tonight. I am taking the wife to the movie and will read this while waiting for her. Just so you get the idea: if you liked Darners-Ell Donsaii, Chandlers - April Series then this will be up your alley. A fun read...something to get you through till you can find a new "WEBER's - Harrington Series" or "BENNETT's - Koban Series" or "Saxon ANDREW's - Annihilation Series". If you know of anything like that let me know.

A good story

A fun romp, a well written story that is still fun and interesting despite the well tread plot points. The heroine is a strong character that avoids the typical pitfalls of the superhero genre, while the nature and evolution of the plot is a mix between the genre and space fiction it does work well.

Good ideas, painful to read.

The author has good ideas, and he likes to tell you about them. All the time. We don't actually 'see' the things that happen. I think when he writes a few more books, I'll be able to read them. Right now though, he's still figuring out how to write. I would have liked, to like this book. If he updates it, or re-writes it I will check it out.

One of the Best Books on this Subject

This volume is one of only a few books currently available on this topic. The testimonies and the way in which the author shares the process of making the transition from a traditional congregational-type of church to an Apostolic Center (A Kingdom Center) -- very valuable for Apostolic Leaders to know. The book is interesting and informative. Alain Caron is very genuine; his writing is anointed; and you will be encouraged to step forward and into the activated knowledge you glean from this book. A must read for any minister that is being called to service in this End-Time Apostolic Age. I highly recommend it...

Must read for all Believers!

For any body of believers being led in this direction, Alain's book gives clear direction (and inspiration) on how to get there. I highly recommend this to every, born-again believer; even those who have never even considered this new paradigm. Actually, there's nothing new under the sun, Alain has simply captured the First Century Apostolic model presented in the book of Acts and in the Pauline Epistles. It's time for the Western Church to shift or be relegated to the 'dust heap' of irrelevancy.

This book gives a clear perspective on how apostolic ministers interact with local fellowships and where they fit within the Church, the body of Christ. The old wineskin of church structure does not accommodate the full functioning of all the 5-fold ministry gifts. The Church of Jesus Christ needs all 5 ministry gifts to be fully functional to be what the Church is called to be. I recommend this book to be read by all serious ministry leaders who desire to come into true biblical alignment.

Robert L. Hilliard has been Dean of Graduate Studies and Dean of Continuing Education and taught, in addition to media writing, courses such as Media Programming, The Media and the Holocaust, Hate.com, Communication Law, and Pictures of Protest. Brilliant start to a series

In Transylvania in 32 B.C, Tahlia Oliveira was turned into a vampire. Tahlia is destined to become the Vampire Queen, one of the most feared and dangerous royal vampires to ever exist. Prior to her re-birth as a vampire, Tahlia had fallen deeply in love with Aurora, the daughter of the head of Caesar's bodyguards. It broke both Tahlia's and Aurora's hearts when Tahlia had to leave Rome to go to Transylvania. It was unavoidable though, her mother wanted the best for Tahlia and she needed the money that she would receive for handing over Tahlia to Lecrac, supposedly to further her education.

Tahlia and Aurora had formed an unbreakable bond between them that would last throughout the centuries that followed. As each century passed by, Tahlia's only reason for her existence in the vampire world was for her lover to be re-born, reincarnated.

Tahlia loves her mortal partner from each re-birth until her mortal death. The cycle is endless. The times in between her lovers reincarnation are torture for Tahlia.

Then the day comes when her lovers re-birth clashes with an enemy set on destroying the vampire hierarchy, an enemy of old, an enemy known to Tahlia. The threat will not be against Tahlia directly. Indirectly though, the threat will jeopardize Tahlia's un-dead existence, therefore upsetting the Royal Clan Vampires forever. Will Tahlia be able to outwit and destroy the enemy?

This is the first book in a new vampire series, it is also Stein Willard's debut book. The book is wonderfully well written, the story is tense and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough at first. I had to stop myself, to slow down and savor the story. It is much too good to rush through.

The characters are well formed, each plays a crucial part into the progression of the story. The settings are described so that they leave nothing to the imagination. I was there, living this story alongside of the vampires and mortals. The sights, sounds and smells all came alive. I was totally in tune with this story, nothing else around me mattered except for finishing this book.

As well as learning all about the vampire clan over the centuries, we learn of the emotions of a love that transcends all time and lasts through the centuries to the present day.

The heat of Tahlia's and her mortal lover's love just belts off the page throughout the book, no matter what century we are reading about. To say the romance is hot, would be an understatement, it's sizzling.

Stein has seamlessly woven the story of the past and the present into a gripping book that I simply could not put down.

I'm really looking forward to seeing which direction the next book in the series will take. I've read many vampire books, this is one of the best I've read in a long while. I hope Stein is not going to keep us waiting for the next book in this series.

A solid and interesting vampire story

This is a solid and interesting vampire story which spans about 2000 years. The take on vampires is different and well-developed and has a new take on this theme! Well done. And four stars for that.

Two points which I didn't like about the e-book. For one there were way too many typos or words still standing from editing. Second: I am all for sex and hot scenes, but when transferring a fanfiction serial story into an ebook it would be helpful to see how this fits the new format, sigh.

This is one of very few books i've come across at Amazon that read as if they had never been edited at all. It's as if someone had decided to publish their first rough draft. There are multiple words missing or completely misspelt - in a single sentence! So much so, that sometimes it is impossible to figure out the meaning behind the butchered sentence. It was beyond frustrating.
And still, I might have struggled through it if the writing had not been so over the top with cliche after cliche, melodramatic and predictable.
I did not manage to finish it - it seemed like utter waste of my precious reading time.
I admire anyone who has the ability to write a coherent story and has the courage to publish. But sometimes I wish they wouldn't bother...

Deeply Disappointing Historical Fiction from Poul Anderson

Poul Anderson is a huge name in science fiction but if "The Golden Slave" is a typical example of his forays into other genres I'm glad he primarily stayed with science fiction.

Set between the Sicilian Slave Uprising and the Spartacus rebellion, Anderson has grabbed onto several historical facts and figures twisting them to tell a story of struggle, survival, and adjustment. Historical issues aside the phrasing, descriptions, and plot flow were almost unbearable to read. Granted it is clear he wants to use language to show the struggles of the barbarian prince, Eodan, in foreign lands but when he isn't speaking, when he isn't thinking, the prose needs to be much clearer.

The sudden viewpoint shifts and plot jumps coupled with odd characters reminds me of pulp science fiction but in a historical novel they just felt out of place. Perhaps when original published in 1960 this tone was common to historical fiction as well but I have my strong doubts based on other historical novels I've read from the 1950s and 1960s. I could never connect strongly to any character and the romantic overlaps felt forced.

Finally Wonder Publishing Group has done this book no service with the layout of the book. The good news may be that the font is huge so you can easily read it but it also feels wasteful. There are some areas were the text has been stretched out awkwardly that is a clear indication that some editor only the way didn't do a thorough job. Poul Anderson deserved better care even if the text is subpar.

Don't Go See This Play On A First Date

This is not a horrible play, but it is a horrible play to see on a first date. I made that mistake. I saw it back in the 80s off broadway in New York. I scored great tickets, first row. The theater was small and the stage was not set in an arch or elevated.
One of the charactors/props in the play was a live orphaned baby lamb kept in a baby playpen at the front of the stage. The lamb kept licking our fingers during the play and was very cute. So far so good, this first date was going ok. I was scoring points with the girl I was with.
Then the drama started. The family portrayed is disfunctional and under incredible stress. The violence increases and increases. Yelling, fighting--I don't want to spoil things for you, but things don't turn out well for the lamb at the end (for you PETA folks out there--through the use creative F/Xs no living lamb was hurt in the production). End result for me--not a very good first date. It was a better read.

Disguised Gem

Sam Shepard has created a beautiful story of a poor family struggling to keep their home, relationships, and sanity. His amazing symbols keep the reader thinking, and this proves to be a play that is much more than surface deep. I especially enjoyed his themes on class and destiny, as well as his ideas on family and rebirth. For me, this book was amazingly written and intriquingly complex; its tragedies make the reader reevaluate his/ her own life. It made me laugh out loud, but in addition to being funny, it was enlightening, symbolic, provocative.

The blue collar Wild West, a la Sam

I had not read Shepard in many a moon, and it was good to check back into his strange version of America. This was written during his peak period (his recent stuff, most of which I have not read, is not as highly regarded), and like many of his other good ones, it concerns a squabbling family in the Southwest. The title and some of the dialogue indicates that Shepard viewed the travails of this clan as symptomatic of being part of the great white working class - and travails there are: alcoholism, violence, living with poverty breathing down their necks, smart alecky kids, a confused mother, a drunken, headstrong father. Parts of it are absurd and funny, but ultimately this is no comedy.

The play begins with the son Wesley, trying to repair the door his father, Weston, has smashed to bits in a drunken rage. The refrigerator is empty - there is a lot of action concerning the refrigerator and food. This is clearly a family in disarray. Both the parents are trying to sell the house out from under each other. The father is tough and dynamic, but seriously cracked, and much of the play concerns the other characters tiptoeing around and trying to figure out how to handle him. Most of the dialogue is standard American white trashese. There are a couple of monologs which, for me anyway, were not as effective. This was a good one. I would like to see it performed someday. It might be a little difficult though - the script calls for a live lamb.
