Restored My Faith in This Genre!!!

I don't give 5 Stars easily but I was so impressed that someone finally got an ending right. I HATE these serial novels that are just one story haphazardly broken into pieces to sell more books. The "cliffhanger" endings usually leave me feeling cold and no longer interested in what happens since absolutely nothing is left resolved. Ms. LaTrice, you have restore my faith in this genre immensely. I got my resolutions, my happy ever after (maybe not so happy by according to the last page?) and one hell of a surprise ending. The only things I found hard to swallow were Kendrick getting out of bed 30 minutes after coming out of a coma, but this is fiction after all so I won't focus too hard on that. The second was it was tough keeping track of all of the characters, especially with all of the K names, but I've read a lot worse on that front. And finally I wish you had made the girls at least 18 from the start, they still could have been high school seniors and I wouldn't have felt like To Catch A Predator needed to do a Baltimore edition just for them. I did like the storyline overall, as it was fun. To be honest, even if I had hated it, I would still give you 5 stars for giving your readers a COMPLETE story with a Beginning, Middle and End. Bravo. I think a lot of writers in your genre could learn from you and this novel.

I would, give this book 20 stars if I could. It picked up right where it left off and came stronger with the Drama. These women love them King boys but so do the thots. With the thots scheming to break them up and be the next Mrs. King and men trying to take over their spots... Them Kings show and prove that they rule with a iron fist and they protect their queen by any means. Another CERTIFIED BANGER cannot wait for the next installment.

Clean, clear, and focused...

I found the CISSP Cert Guide by McMillan and Abernathy to be clean, clear and focused. These are important attributes for a study guide that leads you through such a vast field (ten domains) of technical knowledge. The guide presents each topic/subtopic of the CISSP Exam Objectives in an easy to understand manner without veering off-topic or padding the information with non-pertinent fluff. This book and the accompanying CD and Online content will form an excellent (and affordable) foundation for the CISSP Body of Knowledge.

Likely my choice for classroom text

As an instructor I’m faced with the choice, over and over, of a thick, detailed textbook versus a more concise one. Thinner would be the easier choice, except that some authors manage to make their thicker books easy, even breezy reading. Other thick books are just … thick. Many of the A+ texts, for instance, go much, much deeper into details than the test they cover does.
This book, which is for the 10-domain test, strikes a very good balance. At 470-odd pages of actual reading material (less Glossary, Index and front matter), it’s a reasonable size for the cert courses I teach. I found it easy to cover 50 pages an hour, though I’ve got over 20 years’ experience with this area so not much slows me down. But I’ve dealt with many (many) books filled with page after page of thick, hard-to-read and hard-to-comprehend text, so many that the slimmer, more terse books tend to make me cautious. This one’s slim and terse and absolutely readable.
Tight texts like this work by using short, declarative sentences. They state facts, explain simply, and provide solid nuggets of useful information, but they also don’t supply many examples, don’t try to explain things using scenarios, and don’t provide much if any historical context. If you’re already the kind of network professional you’re supposed to be to test for this certification, this won’t be a problem. A couple of paragraphs of discussion can cover Kerberos just fine – for the initiated. If you’re trying to “leverage” your way to a higher certification (and it pays to know that if you can’t document five years’ experience, you get an “associate” certification), though, this may not be the book for you. Actually, if you haven’t done the real groundwork, this isn’t the certification for you, either.
One very strong point about the Pearson IT cert texts is the sample questions and tests. I’ve seen too many questions in sample tests from several sources that are mangled, ungrammatical, ambiguous or just plain incorrect, but not here. As a long-time technical editor, I appreciate the good, clear, concise questions and the use of multiple plausible answers that made me slow down and think before choosing. The chapter-end questions and sample tests also seem very much in what I’d label “(ISC)2 style” – there is little or no sneakiness about them, unlike the questions common on some certifications I could name but won’t. They’re short and clear: What’s the second step in a Business Impact Analysis? On which layer is the Internet destination address added? And you either know the answer or you don’t, simple as that.
It was a little sad that the CD that came with my book had some kind of manufacturing defect that looked a little like a tire had run over the edge of the disk, rendering it useless. Ironically, it really was useless: since I already have the Pearson test engine installed, the enclosed license code did the trick all by itself, downloading the latest version of the test and activating it. From there it was all joy for me. With any luck this was a sheer fluke no one else will run into.
Where I did see some weakness in the text was in the tables and diagrams. Personally, I never like matrix tables: a crosswalk of administrative controls against access control categories means almost nothing to me unless something entices me to look carefully at the rows of Xs. This type of table is often necessary for compliance documentation, but it makes for pretty dull reading in a textbook. And diagrams are best if they show relationships and flow. Eight gray bubbles in a row do NOT illustrate the complexity of the ticket-granting process, for instance. From my own experience writing textbooks, I know this is a tough area. Personally, I cheat: I hire a graphic designer and build the simplest, clearest flow diagrams we can make. And fortunately, in this case, not all the graphics are tables and rows-of-bubbles diagrams. Some, for instance the software development models, are pretty good. In fact seeing the waterfall model as an inverted view of the agile model gave me an interesting moment.
A really good glossary and index are gold for most of my students. You know how this field is: the acronyms are like a bowl of Alpha-Bits, and the nomenclature is thicker than the nearest competitor (psychology). In this book the glossary and index cover over 120 pages, which is to say a quarter the size of the reading proper. For a lower-level text it would be too much. For this cert it’s enough, but not too much. These things are not easy to build, and you’ll appreciate them when you’re scratching your head: where the heck did they define this?
I’d be confident to teach from this text immediately, and I’d be confident taking the test after reading this. At this point I’m still evaluating books for teaching the CISSP going forward, but the certification is looking like a winner because of the demand I’m seeing for it in the sectors I serve: labs, bases, government and education. For this class of student, this book is just about ideal.
Full disclosure: I get textbooks for review from several sources, in this case from Pearson IT Certifications. I also work for a certifying organization (ISECOM), participate in building certifications (the OPST and SAI), write textbooks and teach at two universities (UNM and NMSU), so while I’m not the usual test subject, I am frequently the instructor.

Somebody finally did it! If you want to save money and time get this book rather than that monstrosity by Shon Harris. This book has all of the stuff covered on the exam and none of the filler. It is very well written and made my study for the exam much more efficient Thanks guys!

About the Author

Richard Colwell is Professor Emeritus of Music Education at the University of Illinois and Adjunct Professor of Music Education at the University of Michigan. He is the founding editor of the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education and the Quarterly Journal of Music Teaching and Learning. He is also a Guggenheim scholar.

Carol Richardson is Associate Professor and Chair of Music Education at the School of Music, University of Michigan. She currently chairs t e Music Education SIG of the American Educational Research Association. She received a National Acade CROSSUP.0 L n my stdoctoral fellowship for her 1995 study of Cambodian children's music-listening processes. Her most recent book, Music Every Day: Transforming the Elementary Classroom, with co-author Betty Atterbury, was published by McGraw-Hill in 2001.

The New Handbook of Research on Music Teaching and Learning is a very substantial reference work prepared under high scholarly standards and useful to the music researcher on numerous topics. It was a required text for a doctoral course, but I will keep it for future reference for many years to come. Amazon's price was the best I could find, even beating the used price of several other sites. Delivery was very fast.

Going home again

Noah and Harlow fell desperately in love, and married young. Really young, and while they both loved each other dearly, love on its own isn't enough to make a marriage work. To make it work you need to back those feelings up with actions that reflect them, and when everything came to a head, Noah's actions were ... not enough.

Faced with that, and knowing that she deserved better, Harlow picked up and left. Not only did she leave Noah, but she left town for the bright lights of New York, leaving behind the grandmother who'd raised her, and a much younger brother who still needed his fair share of raising.

Years later, that grandmother gets sick, and that little brother is still in need of adult supervision, prompting a return as abrupt as her departure, and that's where things start getting all sorts of complicated.

This delightful novel has a wonderful cast of colorful characters, some of whom have apparently featured in other novels in the series, but were introduced in such a way that I certainly didn't feel I was expected to know things I didn't for not having read those other books.

The tension between the two main characters is superbly awkward, Despite not having seen each other for years, there's clearly still chemistry there, yet neither seem particularly sure how to navigate their new circumstances, particularly given that Harlow is now guardian to fourteen year old Ethan, up and coming football star, and Noah is now ... Coach Murphy.

Author Jessica Prince' beautifully captures the innocence and claustrophobia of living in a small town. The freedom from the rat race of the big city, traded off against the inability to simply avoid that one person you'd really like to not see, since even just walking past them on the street means facing up to demons you thought were long buried.

I really enjoyed the way this book transitions seamlessly from light and funny, to heavy and serious, the subplots involving best friends and particularly how the plot kept revolving around two characters other than the two main ones, Ethan and Grammy.

In the end, a heartwarming tale about love and family that brought tears and smiles in slightly disproportionate measure. I've no hesitation in recommending it.

but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading about Harlow and Noah

“I broke us,” I said in a low voice as I turned back to the wall. “And there hasn’t been a day that’s passed that I haven’t been sorry for it.” ~ Noah

I have been following the Colors series since the beginning, and I have really been enjoying all of the stories. For me, Wildflower wasn't as heartbreaking as some of the others, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading about Harlow and Noah. Their story was cute, and I liked them together. Harlow cracked me up. Her inner dialogue was too funny and the conversations she had with Chloe and Nevie were as funny as always! My favorite conversation? Was the conversation she had to have with her little brother, Ethan, about the birds and the bees!

“And if she tells you that you don’t need to wear one because she’s on the pill, she’s full of s***. Never trust a woman. I speak from personal experience, our gender are a bunch of manipulative bitches. No glove, no love, Ethan. Say it with me.” “I’m not saying that!” “Say it!” He pulled in a deep breath as his scowl deepened. “No glove, no love.” “That’s right,” I replied in relief. “Now, for the most important part…” “There’s more?” he yelped in a shockingly high-pitched voice. I gave him a solemn nod, hoping he understood the seriousness of what I was about to tell him. “Yes. And this is something you need to remember for the rest of your life. You ready?” Ethan’s face was a mask of stern concentration as he nodded. “The woman always comes first.” “AGH! GOD!”

HaHaHa! I couldn't stop laughing when I read that part! I imagined having that conversation with my little brother and I think I laughed for a good five minutes! It also didn't help that every time she would see Shannon, she gave her the death glare! Harlow was so funny and Noah was sweet and cute. They really were perfect together, and I would have loved to have been a fly on their wall! This was another great story from Jessica Prince!

Noah and Harlow were young loves that ended up in a situation that was more than they wanted to handle. Noah did not deal with it well at all and acted like brat and because of that he lost Harlow.
Six years later and Harlow is back in town because her Gram has died and she is now parent to her teenage brother. The one person she doesn't expect to run into is Noah. But Noah has other plans. He want's the girl back now that she is back in town. Harlow is more than leery of letting him in again and justifiably so.
I wasn't sure how much I believed that she had not been with anyone else in that time, but I was slightly disappointed to hear he had been. Even though I did actually expect him to have been more of a man ho as per usual with boys nursing their wounds.
Circumstances pull a ground hog day on them, but his time Noah is pushing and Harlow is resisting. I understood Noah's frustration but I thought he was a bit of a jerk during this time. They were both still fairly young and still quick tempered so I wasn't quick to root for a quick reunion. (The nickname honey was just odd for their age. lol)
The ending is a cute HFN.
