The world outside is recuperating after World War Three with the Lokoti Werewolves protecting the borders of the Lokoti National Park in Alaska against marauders.  Inside the tribe, the families are closed-knit where everyone knows everyone.  One of these families are the Sabre family who are the only non-Lokoti invited to live on tribal lands.  As B is best friends with Derik who is the same age as she, it's a different story with Derik's older brother Declan. 
 
Declan is a European Werewolf and an honorary member of the male dominated Lokoti Werewolf pack.  He and B grow up fighting each other just as Declan fights for the tribe's safety as he patrols the borders with the other Werewolves.  Declan's sarcastic comments and his biting one-liners are constantly aimed B's way.  However after B's change, their fiery exchange turns into something else... a forbidden love.  Declan knows because of his breed of Werewolf that his secret affection for the tribe's Last Circulator and first female Lokoti Werewolf would be frowned upon.
 
European Werewolves are classified the most dangerous breed of Werewolf in the world.  Although Declan was trained the Lokoti Werewolf way to curb his deadly hunger, prejudice still arises.   Instead of Declan placing B on a pedestal?  With his European Werewolf personality he pounced instead.  European Werewolves just love a good fight, which was exactly what Declan got when he secretly chased the tribe's only female Werewolf. 
 
From the mistrust towards his breed, Declan is forced to silently watch B's arranged marriage to another member of the pack. Although her husband is a good man, B comes to miss the chemistry she shared with her supposed worst enemy. Navigating their rocky romance, B and Declan also have to contend with human looters carrying shotguns loaded with silver bullets, the odd European Vampire, other European Werewolves who are still man-eaters and even a sensitive issue that human couples may face; a barren marriage.  With such an obstacle course that could make a new driver hug a traffic cone for comfort; B and Declan find not only passion but absolution in their bloodlust-fueled desires.

All I can say is WOW. This was even better than the first book. It takes you through all of the emotions. Would recommend this book to all of my friends.

If you want a really bad story go for it.

This entire book is all over the place and has way too much going on. Then to make it the writers have the 17 year old heroine raped by the wolf they want to convince you is her true love. The guy is hunting in wolf form changes back to human attacks and forces himself on her. After the first 4 times he gets off then Bianca decides it's okay. There was no way it wasn't rape and it was gross. Declan is a low life in every way but try to make it seem like he should really be with Bianca even while she was married to a wonderful guy who was killed. Bianca is the first female wolf of her race and the last circulator. This makes her barren, she is forced into all the decisions that are made. I kept wanting her to be the one to die. Any girl that is that whiny and that stupid is so shallow who cares what happens to her!

Wonderful supernatural love story! This book is full of grit, fun, sex & action. I didn't know werewolves could be so interesting! B's whole ancestral history is fascinating. Its a long story, but I couldn't put it down. I'm now reading Sororate & can't wait for the next in her series! Thank you K.R. Smith!

Aaron Emerson grew up as the son of a successful minister in Mason, Michigan. Blessed with a loving, caring family, he had the makings of a great life. At 14, however, his dad was unexpectedly fired from the church he helped build, right after the tragic passing of his cousin.

Aaron turned to marijuana and alcohol, finding pleasure in covering up the pain he was experiencing. A year later, he was introduced to prescription pills and eventually became addicted to oxycontin. Once oxycontin became too expensive and hard to find, he made the decision to switch to a cheaper, more potent drug: heroin.

Heroin would take Aaron through a life of hardcore addiction, lengthy jail stints, and several near-death experiences. After years of addiction that saw a once middle class teenager turn into a felon and become homeless, a journey to find recovery transpired.

That journey took Aaron to several rehabs and through many heartbreaking relapses. However, recovery from his addiction was ultimately found, and now he shares his story around the state to raise awareness and spread hope.

Throughout his addiction and recovery, Aaron jouraled and wrote about all of his experiences. He has now published his journal entries full of addiction, jail, rehab, overdose, relapse, and recovery. This book is the collection of all of those writings that shaped his life for several years.

This was a very powerful story. The fact that is all journal entries really gives you an insight of the terrible struggle an addict goes through. I read the entire book in one sitting, couldn't put it down!

I can't remember the last time I had purchased an autobiography that I enjoyed more! This book was impossible to put down, and I will never view addiction the same way again. Aaron has broken the stereotypes I imagine when encountering addicts. His writing styles is clear and communicates well the cravings, guilt, shame, desire for hope in the face of despair, and the battle to outrun addiction's grip. "Beauty for ashes and strength for tears," Aaron. Impressive that this author finds a passion, purpose and mission, having risen from the depths!

I enjoyed reading this book. It has made me open my eyes to see what can happen if someone gets addicted and has a problem. I would highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with drug use or anyone who knows someone struggling. I know personally this book has touched me and made me open my eyes. Overall this is a great book!

Discover Dalton and uncover a world of hot men with hearts of gold.

I am never sure where to start with reviews for Nicole, other than to say this book is as always a masterpiece of writing talent.

Packed from start to finish with complex relationships and life decisions which are real and make you feel for the characters. I personally laughed and cried (cried more than once) with these men. They made me want to get into my car, drive to Manchester and hug/slap/kiss them all at the same time. Ms Colville manages to bring characters to life, breathing realism into them and making you believe that could would walk into a pub and have a beer (or two) with them while you listen to their woes.

Dalton is at a crossroads in his life, marriage is on the rocks and the effects of this cause a ripple effect through his life which he is powerless to stop. As his life unravels, someone takes hold of the fraying threads ad begins to help him pull things together. What Dalton wasn’t expecting was to have these feelings for another man.

Liam is a strong character, private and fiercely and protective of those he holds close to his heart, a heart incidentally, which is as large as an ocean but an impenetrable fortress. You don’t get in unless he allows you access, and that list is minute.

Dalton catches Liam’s eye and the rest is history. He becomes his friend, but all the time they both want more but are unsure about taking the step across the imaginary line drawn in the sand between them. The attraction is hot and burns brightly, although Liam doesn’t want to rush things with the shy unsure man, afraid he will scare Dalton away.

Enter Troy, Liam’s adopted brother and the only person he has allowed into his heart. Troy is looking for love in all the wrong places, and Liam is always there to pick up the pieces as he loves him in a way that he shouldn’t considering they consider each other as brothers.

Problems arise when Dalton meets Troy and falls for him. Having gone from a marriage with his childhood sweetheart, he now is faced with confusing and new feelings for two very different men.

Can Dalton choose between them? What happens when they meet and the truth is uncovered. Ill Dalton have to choose between the two men who have captured his heart, or will Dalton Discover love he never knew possible?

Fall in love with these three men for yourself, and find out what happens. Also a huggge shout out to the character Blue,who is real breath of fresh air and is someone I cannot wait to hear more from.

Well written and good story line but I had to struggle to keep ...

Torn on this one. Well written and good story line but I had to struggle to keep reading at times. I started to wonder if they would all be getting together before the last chapter. The first 3/4 of the book was a lead in before we actually get to the point(two of them live together and dont realize what's going on? huh) After that I felt like the ending was abrupt. I would have liked the book to be at least 1/2 of the 3 of them together to see how it all worked out. We get yanked out right at the good part :(

About the Author

Douglas Mann is Assistant Professor in the faculty of information and media studies at the University of Western Ontario. In addition to authoring two editions of Understanding Society, Mann has published Structural Idealism: A Theory of Social and Historical Explanation (WLU Press, 2002), Philosophy: a New Introduction (Nelson, 2005), and dozens of academic and newspaper articles. His main research and teaching areas include social and political theory, pop culture, music, and science fiction.

Since it wouldn't be right for me to toot my own horn, I'll let someone else do it for me: what follows is a verbatim report from an reviewer sent to Oxford University Press in late 2008 - I've cut only a single paragraph that refers to suggested revisions for the second edition (due to be published in 2011). The reviewer has given OUP permission to reprint this.

"Understanding Society. A Survey of Modern Social Theory by Douglas Mann achieves both breadth and depth in unpacking the foundations and conflations of social theory from the 1920s to present, while still effectively situating these within theoretical paradigms and concerns set out in the classics. From individual sections that follow major historical tensions within functionalism and materialism through to sections such as Structuralism, Semiotics and Post-structuralism; Postmodernism: Time, Space, and Culture, to sections that address contemporary social issues, such as the section on Globalization, McDonaldization, and Corporatism, this textbook is thorough, timely, and relevant.

What is more is that Mann's logic for inclusion in this text makes it a strikingly original resource, as it offers surprising yet accurate twists on some of the sections. For instance, the section on critical theory gives attention to the vital role of situationist practices intrinsic to the development of the theory addressed within the section. The whole of the book is foregrounded with an introduction to social theory that acquaints students with the necessary historical conceptual frameworks, debates, concerns, and conditions relevant to the emergence of modernity and the discipline itself. This introductory section deals with questions such as: "What is modernity?"; "What is society?"; and it outlines different forms of explanatory emphasis with respect to the agency-structure tension as a way of initially mapping out some of the theories that follow in the textbook. The substantive depth that Mann is able to establish and maintain in such a vast project is quite a remarkable achievement.

In the construction of Understanding Society, Mann makes a self-conscious effort to exceed the state of the discipline and to propose something more for the classroom and for the student of social theory. One of the things that I find exciting about this text is that it concretely acknowledges that the discipline is indebted to many theorists not belonging to the discipline in the strict sense. A major strength of this textbook is that it consistently refuses to be confined by territorial boundaries. The theorists covered reflect well the significant influences on theoretical scholarship today. Through the selections for this textbook, Mann responds to the historical conditions specific to our time and with particular attention to the demands and implications brought about by the rapid changes in technology and communications and the face of global politics in a post-Cold War context. The inclusiveness of this text is reflected in Mann's emphasis on social theory rather than on sociological theory. While abstractly, this description of the textbook risks giving the implicit suggestion that the range of thought may lend to a surface treatment of the theories covered, however, engagement with the text will demonstrate that this is not the case. In fact, the sections and sub-sections are diligent, comprehensive, and challenging.

One of the ways in which Mann manages the ambitious scope of Understanding Society is to give more detailed attention to one or two of a theorist's key works. This approach in the text's construction is exceedingly successful and the discussions are still well situated to take up central themes and concepts not necessarily associated directly with the emphasized texts. Further, in terms of the potential for incorporating this textbook in a course with primary source reading materials, the emphasis on key works would facilitate a course design that includes key works in the reading schedule. In taking this approach to its overall organization, Mann's textbook may look different from other textbooks but, by giving attention to the conceptual frameworks that are actually being drawn from within the discipline, it better prepares students to read and to understand current and historical scholarship.

Throughout the text, Mann often addresses the historical mutual articulations between art and culture and social thought; these are relationships that are quite important, they are arguably inextricable to the development of social thought. The significance of acknowledging such interrelationships cannot be overstated for instructors who are concerned with, on the one hand, the study of social theory not as a completed object but as something living, active, and intertwined with social practices and, on the other hand, not just the content of theories but the forms that they can take, which is a distinction that enables students' own emerging practice of theorizing.

Understanding Society strikes a balance between being both readable and challenging. Vital terminology is introduced and deployed throughout the textbook in a way that is understandable but still demands some effort from students. Unlike many textbooks, Understanding Society does not level down the language or the degree of challenge intrinsic to the concrete examples it uses to illustrate complex ideas. The textbook appropriately anticipates intellectually interested and dynamic students of social theory. Each section concludes with a short bibliography that can operate as a point of departure that may effectively facilitate student research in conjunction with instructor-provided written assignments requiring further research. The bibliographies will also serve the interested and motivated student's independent study beyond the confines of the course structure. There is a set of approximately twenty study questions at the conclusion of each section. The questions get at the key ideas and their interrelationships, while encouraging students to think about concepts through external and concrete examples from the sphere or everyday life. The questions are clear and well composed for exam preparation but many of them could also be used to prompt reflective writing assignments. Another useful set of features in this textbook is the images, tables, and figures that spatially and visually represent complex interrelationships expressed in some of the theoretical works covered.

Understanding Society is an outstanding teaching and learning resource that represents an extraordinary amount of work, synthesis, and insight. It is a comprehensive and dynamic textbook that will engage students in the study of contemporary social theory and allow instructors much flexibility in their course design."

About the Author
Jeremy Arnold, a writer and film historian, is the author of Lawrence of Arabia: The 50th Anniversary, a coffee-table book companion to that film's Blu-ray release. In addition to his work for numerous film trade publications, he has written over five hundred programming articles for the Turner Classic Movies website and contributed audio commentaries and historical essays to the DVD and Blu-ray releases of classic films.
Jeremy lives in Los Angeles.

Interesting selections and carefully reviewed. Most fun: the section for each movie titled, "What to Look For." Many of these will be movies you have seen-but with what to look for you will find an additional dimension. Well done, Mr. Arnold!

I hope this is the beginning of a TCM series

I've ordered two of these books. I am a classic film lover and a TCM fan. What could make a better combination for me? Turner Classic Movies decided which movies would be part of their 15 year series "The Essentials". A movie a week has been suggested for the old fan or an introduction for the person exploring the classics for the first time (like my DILs). We are told why each film was selected and what to look for (helpful for me because I would never be considered a film historian). The pictures alone (Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas together) would be enough reason to buy this book.

I bought one for me and, later, one as a gift. It's a great read that makes you want to see (or see again) each movie - without spoiling them. The pictures are also great, with many behind-the-scenes, which are cool.

I studied film in college many years ago, and this felt like a refresher course.

About the Author
Dr. Frederick P. Stutz is Emeritus Professor of Geography at San Diego State University. He received his Ph.D. at Michigan State University, his M.A. at Northwestern University, and B.A. at Valparaiso University. His research interests include Urban Traveler Behavior, GIS Disaster Evacuation of City Traffic, and U.S.-Mexican Border Area Travel Needs Assessment. He is currently working on a project involving Energy and Travel Sustainability—Space-Time Utility Measures for Urban Travel Purposes.

Barney Warf is Professor of Geography at the University of Kansas. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Washington in 1985. His current areas of research are political economy, social theory, producer services, financial markets, telecommunications, the geography of cyberspace, military spending, and international trade. He has authored or edited 5 books, 2 encyclopedias, and 100 journal articles.

Delivers some useful facts but extremely theoretically confused

I actually want to give this book 2.5 stars but can't. Anyhow it's OK but not great. A lot of the stuff in here is things that a person would know if they paid even a little attention to world issues. I guess it's fair to try to be comprehensive and some people have just got to start *somewhere* but I shudder to think who is graduating from college anymore. My most serious complaint is that, theoretically, this book is a mess, and I do mean a *mess*. At some times, neoclassical economic approaches are presented without criticism, including the ubiquitous supply / demand curve graphs, and at other times Marxist and even more radical constructivist views in the Marxist vein are emphatically asserted to be true, along with a mélange of other heterodox viewpoints. Now I am heterodox myself but this crap just doesn't make sense. For instance, at one point, the authors are dismissing the major arguments for protectionism in trade, but then criticizing the policies of the Bretton Woods institutions only a few pages later. Also, the authors should be made well aware that Bethlehem Steel is now defunct and the main site in Bethlehem proper has been converted to a casino. Get up to speed, guys.

Solid learning

Solid book on the world of Geography and Economics that pertain to it. It is a bit heavy with the complicated lingo and concepts at times, but I did take decent notes while reading which helped immensely. My professor was good to guide me through the book in class and as a result I am getting good grades. If this isn't your major or general expertise, it will get dull since it talks about the general economics and surrounding areas in geography.

I got this book as it was required for my World Ecomonics class. Luckily it is a easy and fun read, not just informative. The authors of the book have organized it well, and I've enjoyed the historical aspects as well the current information.

First, let me preface this by the disclaimer that I've grown up around dogs all my life, and participated closely in their training with my family and been to several obedience classes that adopted varying techniques.
I got this book primarily because I recently got a puppy who is more dominant and I was interested in her take on the "teaching your dog respect" claims.

It does have some decent basic training advice in it. It gives a ton of different command examples, explains why you need different but similar commands for things like "drop" vs "give" and "stay" vs "wait", but honestly, I found the approach outdated. For example: if your dog eliminates in the house she advocates dragging the dog back there, sticking his nose *near* it (not "in", at least...) and scolding him/her. This is is a seriously outdated training method that does nothing except confused the dog and give them bad associations of you. I am not opposed to corrections, don't get me wrong. However, if you don't catch the dog IN THE ACT, a correction is useless. Especially with a puppy.. they have the attention span of a gnat; they won't understand what you're correcting them about.

Also, while it is a 337pg book, if you download the pdf it is in large type with many graphics and spaces (no clue about the paperback). Another annoyance to me is that she spends about 1/6 of the book suggesting you purchase other things: her other books, other people's books, equipment she recommends, etc. (all of which there are hyperlinks to in the pdf). I appreciated her suggestions, to a degree... but her book was $19, she shouldn't be spending that large of a percentage of it telling me what else to spend money on... There was a lot of "this is important, but I'm not going to go into detail here. Buy this book." So I read through it in about 4 hours, maybe less.

Her approach to teach respect is pretty common sense, imo. Basically... be consistent and follow through. If you tell your dog to do something make sure he does it after the first instruction (once he knows it, of course). If he's being unruly, correct him. Make sure you use appropriate corrections (not so harsh that you're traumatizing him, but strong enough to get his attention/make something uncomfortable via loud noises, leash jerks, water sprays, etc.)Don't baby your dog or reward/comfort them for undesirable behaviors like fear, or adopt a "well, that was good enough" approach. Don't let him tell you what to do, and always demand something of the dog before giving something to the dog (a sit, for instance).

The "100 words" vary from vital knowledge to fun tricks to completely useless. Of course she covers things such as "sit" "stay" "leave it" "heel", etc. But a lot of her "words" are seriously reaching. For example: I have no desire to teach my dog the word "popcorn". Other words I found completely useless were: squirrel, birdies, doggy (meaning other dogs), puppy (for other puppies, which are different from other dogs!), kitty (though this could be useful if you have a cat, of course), cheese, etc.
SO MANY were also repetitious. For example, words 57-62 are: "Are you hungry?" "Want to eat?" "Want some food?" "Want your breakfast?" "Want your supper?" and "Want some water?". Personally, I can't fathom why a dog needs to know *all* of these, or why they came before grooming commands like "open", when the rest of the book seems to suggest that commands are listed somewhat by training order/importance. To me, it's enough to say "Food time" and have him know to go where he gets fed...which dogs pick up pretty naturally.
Then the last eight were for agility equipment. Which can be useful, but if you have no plans to do agility... not so much.
IMO, if you can't think of 100 different and useful commands then you have no business writing a book called "Teach your dog 100 English words" Make it 50 words.

To me, everything worth knowing in this book was either common sense, or things that can be found in free articles/youtube videos online... except for her personal opinions on the best leashes, books on subjects, etc. And, honestly, there are other dog trainer's whose opinions I would respect much more.

I would suggest rather than spending your money on this book you invest in a clicker (Studies have shown that dogs trained with clicker/marker training learned 50% faster than dogs who were just praised and treated because you can precisely time and "mark" the behavior) and spend a few hours on youtube/other dog training sites (Leerburg has some free videos, I personally really respect Michael Ellis' style, or dogmantics.com if you prefer non-intimidation techniques which can be awesome, but in my experience not as effective with dominant dogs), or even just google... AND sign up for obedience classes so you can get feedback in person from a professional. But that said, DO set up a plan, stick to it, and enforce. Once a dog learns a word, obeying you can't be optional if you want a trained dog.

Book is great! Consistency is key.

I am adding this review simply because the other review gives it a one star based on the weird pricing. I agree with her - weird thing going on with Amazon. I got the same deal on author's website as earlier this year couldn't even find copy on Amazon. To review the book itself - it's great! Some of the advice is contrary to things previously learned (now unlearning) in various obedience courses at pet stores and such. We've had several dogs, right now have 2 and these tips are working well for us. They are both larger,active dogs and we have been complimented on their behavior. I can assure you that I do not have loads of time to work on this as a busy mom who works part-time. Nonetheless, we have seen great improvement in our dogs and enjoyment of them with improved behaviors. We are still introducing new commands and it's going well. The techniques are also easy for our young daughters to follow through with which leads to great consistency - the key.

Title should be: "100 ways you could kill your dog"

I was a little disappointed with this book. The training methods seem reasonable-no problem there. But the author's obsession with every single thing in the universe being a mortal threat to your dog, you almost need to be on Xanax just to read it without having a panic attack.

(Don't spay too early or it'll get cancer....for heaven's sake don't spray your dandelions or you'll kill your dog....don't leave kitchen appliances laying around where they could fall off the counter, hit your dog in the head and kill it...commercial dog food is no better than poison...)

And my biggest peeve: According to Ms. Welton, if you have a job, you can't own a dog. Period.

I'll read the training parts, but her care advice is over the top, paranoid, and way too heavy on the guilt.
